You are right, some cd makers use a thin layer of gold in the CD as a reflective layer. Some use a silver alloy of silver instead of the gold.
The main plastic in the disc is made of polycarbonate, which is pretty durable. There is also the dye layer which is what the laser uses to burn the data into.
Different manufacturers would have a slightly different materials and processes for making them though.
As far as recycling them goes... well I guess someones probably doing it. Polycarbonate is not the most readily recyclable plastic, but it could be done.
While extracting the precious metals out of the cd's would probably be doable to, but expensive I'm guessing, and maybe not too environmentally friendly.
Tried your suggestion Lana, it works really well :) Thankyou It's probably best if you like your eggs well done, because the microwave tends to cook things from the outside inwards, so the getting the center runny still is quite hard to time.
Once I get used to it with my microwave I don't think I'll be going back to the old ways of cooking eggs in a pan.
I always thought the secret to cooking rice properly was to wash it well before you start cooking it. Just put it in cold water and get all the starch or whatever the white surface stuff is off it.
Do that a few times in fresh water and then start boiling it according to the instructions. That seems to work for me.
On the fried rice side of things, there is a trick there too involving undercooking the rice maybe...but I'm not really sure.
12000 calories is around six times the average daily consumption recommended for most people. As Pete said though, he'd be burning a heck of a lot of calories with his swim training, so it's no big deal for him probably.
Most olympic athletes in sports like swimming, would have pretty specialized diets that would seem ridiculous to us.
The downside of doing the whole HDR image thing is the setup time and the need to use a tripod to get all the images exactly locked down.
It's good for those special shots where you have time. We've done them at uni some years back using hemispherical lens to create HDR backdrops for CGI.
If they can work out a way to get true HDR into a point and shoot single shot image on a regular camera, then everyone will be a master photographer one day. Problems of overblown or underexposed snap shots could be a thing of the past.
You cannot choose where you lose fat from on your body as you exercise. The only way to really target it is through liposuction which can target a specific area.
You will need to exercise regularly and eat healthy food and you will start losing weight, but it will come off the entire body including the face and breasts.
Exercise promotes all over fat burning. If you wish to ad some light weights work using high repetitions you can also help to burn more calories and to tone up your muscles in specific areas you think you need.
The music used at the end of the speech when the Obamas and the Bidens come onto stage is from the Mel Gibson movie "The Patriot" I think it's a John Williams composed score.
