BMW M3 2005 or 335i 2007 Which to buy

Looking in to getting a second hand BMW either the E46 shape M3 from 2005 or the 335i 2007 model.
I'm finding this one a bit difficult to decide on because I like the idea of owning an M3 obviously, but the E46 shape is starting to get a little dated. Also fitout and equipment will be better in the newer 335i.
Suggestions on which way to go on this would be appreciated.

I feel that M3 might be good option but for technical details and expert suggestion you must find someone good person like

The only possible downside of the M3 is that it may have been "thrashed" more, given the typical M3 owners tendency to push their vehicles harder.
If you're not into driving hard and the M3 is only about street credibility for you, then I'd go with the 335 instead.

Well for my money I'd certainly take the M3 over the 335i even though it's 2 years older. Then again you could probably guess I'd say that by looking at my profile picture :)
The M3 is the performance drivers car, while as you say, the newer 335 would have slightly more updated equipment and stying.
