I'm trying to get my data off this old seagate 40gig harddrive, but it doesn't even have a diagram to show what the pin positions are to set the drive to be a master. Anyone know what it should be set at?

It's a Seagate barracuda ultra ATA V 40gig

Thanks

I think that you should remove jumper and that will do the business...

JonoT is probably correct...but I've found in the past that simply checking the pin positions in turn while rebooting into BIOS is the quickest way to tell. Also try with no jumpers.

Hey pirate

I have an old ATA III seagate 20gig Harddrive and it has a proper diagram on it which says the jumper pin position for 'master' should be set to the far left of the 4 pins. That's if you are holding the drive the same way as you are with the power plug on the right.

I know they aren't identical drives, but I find it hard to believe they would radically alter the positions between various ATA drive models.

Hope this helps.
