Does this look like the right amount of coffee to put into a coffee machine. my machine comes with a scoop but one scoop does not fill u p the basket so i normally add a bit more. Sometimes the machine seems to struggle to force the water through but I'm not sure whether this is because I'm putting too much in or pushing the coffee down too hard.

You've got the fill maybe a touch high. The pressure applied using your tamper should be around 40-45pounds. That's a fair push. Try doing that on some bathroom scales to see what if feels like.

The fineness of the grind is all important too. The more uniform the grind is the better your coffee will be.

When i use my machine at home I fill it up to where you have it. Level with the rim. You want to pack it firmly down but not too hard.
