TV cables to get better picture

Details

I got my neighbor to hook up my LCD HD TV to my blu-ray disc player and I can't see any difference between this and a normal dvd I used to have.

The photo shows the cables I have attached at the moment. Should I be using something else? I have since discovered that not all cables are as good as one another.. I'm not a tech person when it comes to these things.

Could use some help with this please.

I forgot to mention...if you find that the HDMI cable prices are too steep for you, you can opt for using Component cables and get the same HD signal throughput as HDMI.

Component connections use the same "RCA" plugs you have here, except that they only carry the video signal from your device to your TV. You will need an addiitional audio cable to get your audio from the blu-ray to the TV.

Sorry if that confuses things a little.

Don't get suckered in to paying huge sums for an HDMI cable though. Some brands like Monster are ridiculously over priced at $80 for some lengths.

You can probably get no name brands for $30 that do as good a job.

If you have a recent HD LCD it will most likely have what's called an HDMI port. You have probably the lowest quality connection you can have on yours at the moment. This is why you are not getting the full HD quality you expect.

You can buy an HDMI cable then use it ito connect your TV to your blu ray player nstead of the RCA cables you are using here. Your input button on your TV remote will have to change though as the HDMI will be under a different name.
