Type of car used in Cobra movie

Anyone remember that cool looking car that Sylvester Stallone drove in the 80's movie "Cobra"?? It was silver and quite curvaceous, I'm trying to work out what it was or whether it was a custom.

It was a 1950 Mercury Monterey but obviously modified somewhat. Awesome looking car it was too, I remember it being very imposing grey and had a nice whirring supercharger noise.
