Details

I took this photo in February of something that washed up on the beach. It looks kind of like a jelly fish but with no tentacles. Possibly it's a jelly bagel :)
It was about 10cm or so across.

Anyone got any clues on what this is? I wasn't game to touch it.

Ok I've got it on good authority from a zoologist that this is an egg sack from a type of sand snail.

Probably either the Conical Sand Snail "Polinices conicus" or the Sordid Sand Snail "Polinices sordidus".

The jelly is filled with hundreds of tiny eggs which are hard to make out.

It's rather Sci fi. Like a transparent alien worm parasite dumped in the oceans and now surfacing to take over the world!

I blame global warming for hatching these things.

This wasn't the only one of these that was washed up on the same beach, there were heaps of them. I only took a photo of this one as it looked the weirdest.

There's no sign of any organs inside it as far as I can see, maybe it's not even an animal at all.

Where's George Costanza marine biologist when you need him?
